He gets it!
A few weeks ago we added to our family.
No, I’m not pregnant.
We added someone of the four-legged variety!
He is a mutt, the perfect dog for us. He is part Dalmation, Black Lab and… wait for it… part Mastiff (were hoping a small part) and who knows that else. He is a really good-looking dog. A friend of ours put us in contact with the woman who rescued him and his litter-mates from the home they were born at.
We DVR-ed a bunch of episodes of “The Dog Whisperer” and we jumped right in to puppy training.
Wow! If you want to know what kind of parent you are (or are not), then get a dog and learn what discipline can be!
We had to teach him to wear a collar so that we could walk him on the leash. We had to crate train him. We had to house-break him. We don’t want the yard covered in doggie land-mines so we wanted to train him to use only one part of the yard to “potty”. Vince and I have taken turns getting him on the leash and out to his “potty spot” multiple times each day since he came home with us. The other day he ran out after the kids with no leash on, so I went out behind him and said “Need to potty?” ad he ran right to his “potty spot” and went! Woohoo, training success!! And the last few days he’s been grabbing his leash when he needs to go out. Our puppy is a genius!
